Tournament participation is an opportunity for athletes to test their skills against other athletes. Whether an athlete is 6, 15, or 35 years old PATMA believes that he or she prefers a professional, safe, and fair testing ground. Participating in such a tournament allows competitors to focus on technique execution, strategy, and timing. Consistent rules and application of these rules encourages competitors to try new techniques and push themselves to new levels of accomplishment whether they are performing a kata or engaging in kumite.

To recognize athletes and to encourage them to continue to participate, cash awards are presented to the top advanced adult kata and kumite competitors at each tournament. Additionally, overall awards to the top adult and junior competitors are given each year.

PATMA rules are based upon World Karate Federation rules which are recognized by the United States Olympic Committee. The rules are modified to accommodate participation of younger competitors.

PATMA currently hosts five (5) tournaments a year. Each event features competitors from Southern and Northern California, and beyond. A PATMA annual membership pays for itself after two tournaments.

Membership is open to all competitors that agree to abide by the PATMA rules
